IHPA Historic Sites Update
|
Governor Patrick Quinn has provided supplemental monies to the IHPA to
use with regards to opening the historic sites closed Nov. 30, 2009, by ex-Gov.
Blagojevich.
The Monday following Easter Sunday, all full-time laid off historic site
employees were called to inform them that the historic sites are to reopen and
that they were to get back to work.
At this time Bishop Hill State Historic Sites full-time workers are to come back to
work on April. 22, 2009, with the first day the Bishop Hill State Historic Sites to
be open to the public on April 23, 2009, with days open being Wed. - Sun.
We will update the site with hours and days of operation of other reopened
State historic sites, once we have this information.
Nature- and history-based tourism is growing fast in the U.S., Quinn said, and
the dollars generated by tourism outweigh the cost of running the sites.
Governor Quinn, you kept your word to the citizen's of Illinois and reopened our
State Parks and now our State Historic Sites, and for this we say a heartfelt
thank you!
