Bishop Hill Fine Arts “Where Memories Are Made”...Or Is It A
Labor of Love?

Upon the death of Sherry (Looney) Linscott's brother, artist Michael John Looney at the
young age of 53, Sherry and her husband set about finding a way to fulfill Sherry's brother's
last request "to share my art".  Realizing how many local artisans lived either in Bishop Hill
and the immediate surrounding area, Chuck and Sherry decided to actively look for a
building in Bishop Hill, IL, a town that artist Michael Looney often photographed and
sketched, in which to open a Fine Arts shop, where they could not only share the beautifully
created artwork of Sherry's brother Michael, but also give other artisans a chance to fulfill
their dreams of showcasing and selling commercially their artwork to the general public in a
local shop geared specifically to Fine Art and handmade items.  Thus began the birth of the
Bishop Hill Fine Arts shop.

Having opened September 2006 with only 6 artisans, today the shop currently boasts
73 & counting, local and area artisans featuring their art in a variety of gift, jewelry,
art, and decor items.  Great souvenir items to take back home to "make your
memories".  Many artisans have created museum quality artwork.  Take your time
browsing through not only our main room, but our other 2 rooms, the Rustic Room
and the Garden Lattice Room
.

In the shop you'll find Michael's love of art, history and trains evident in his artwork featured
in the main front room.
Giclée (zhee-clay) signed and numbered limited edition prints
featuring local Bishop Hill scenes created by Michael John Looney, as well as Michael's
ever-popular Giclée  Railroad Art are featured only at Bishop Hill Fine Arts, as well as a
variety of framed and unframed art work by other area artists in a number of art forms.

Artisans in the following fields of art are likewise represented: custom framing, stained glass,
holiday wreaths and holiday decor, woodcarving, silversmith, primitives, pottery, weaving,
embroidery, basket weaving, ethnic masks hand carved, gallery/museum quality blown
glass, quilting, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, rosmaling, carved walking sticks, floral
arrangements, Swedish Love Knots, photography, sculpting, watercolor, woodworking,
one-of-a-kind jewelry designs, homemade soap, homemade candles, and much more!

All artisans either live in Bishop Hill or the immediate surrounding area, with no
purchased catalog or wholesale merchandise being sold at Bishop Hill Fine Arts.
Convenient location, with easy directions from most major cities.
Featured Artists:
Michael John Looney -
Prints of local Bishop Hill scenes, as well as Rail Art that were photographed using a digital
camera and then enhanced using a computer and archivally printed using the Giclée process
of printing and then museum quality framed are being offered.  A percentage of monies
earned from the sale of Michael's Giclee prints is used for the continuation of the Michael J.
Looney Memorial Scholarship  which is presented each year to a student pursuing a career
in the field of art or architectural design.

The Giclée Method is best described in the simplest terms, where you take digital photo
and enhance the picture with literally billions of ink droplets giving the final art piece the
appearance of being a watercolor.  The idea of taking a digital photo and being able to
manipulate the picture to look like a fine art watercolor painting held great appeal to
Michael as it allowed the artist to merge his computer skills and photography together to
create art that could hold its beauty for upwards of 100 years.

All prints are printed on 100% cotton rag paper (watercolor), acid free mats, board, and
backing,  and archival ink, with framed prints also receiving museum conservation glass.
Frames are custom made from boards taken from area buildings being either remodeled or
torn down.  All prints are signed, numbered, limited edition prints.

Chuck Flagg -
Chuck Flagg specializes in custom cone 10 stoneware pottery which is wheel thrown and
hand built.  The main collection contains functional pottery: mugs, steins, tea pots, pitchers,
bowls, place settings, platters, casseroles, bread pans, muffin pans, salt & pepper, canister
sets, and many other serving style dishes.  Chuck has also created lighting fixtures, oil
lamps, candle holders.  If you can dream it, Chuck will try to figure out a way to produce it.
Chuck also does sculptural clay works in small and large scale.  From small table pieces to
large scale wall murals.  The challenge of producing large scale pieces is an exciting change
from  wheel thrown production.  Additionally, Chuck has been an instructor at Illinois
Central College (having instructed many local and area potters), as well as being the
Chairman of the Fine Art Department at the college.
